What is Swapclub
?
Swapclub.co.nz is
an online club for exchanging goods. Currently you can
exchange books, CDs, DVDs and gaming software. There
are no transaction fees or money to transfer so it's
nice and simple. All you do is list your unwanted items,
earn points when you send them to another member and
then redeem your points for other items listed by other
members.

Why has Swapclub
evolved?
Because lots of people just want
to read or listen to music or play games without the
costs and hassle involved when buying items on traditional
auction or classified sites. How many times have you
paid too much for an item on one of these sites? We
have, and figured there must be a better way. Swapclub
is it.

Why is Swapclub
better?
There are no transaction costs, no
classifieds asking unrealistic prices, no runaway auctions
with autobids, no money to transfer, and you're part
of a community with similar interests, plus it's loads
of fun. Try it and you will soon see how enjoyable this
concept is.

What happens
when I get a request from another member?
Confirm delivery address with the
other member, and then put the item in the post and
confirm it's on the way at the website. Remember to
keep the postage receipt so your points are protected.

Does that mean I
pay for postage?
Yes. You pay for postage on outgoing
items. This means there are no funds to transfer and
makes it very fast. When you request an item this will
arrive to you postage paid so in effect, it hasn't cost
you anything for this item. Read

What do I get when
I send out an item I have listed?
You will receive Swapclub
Credits when you send an item out. The credits
can then be used to get items from other members. Remember,
although you pay for postage on outgoing items, the
ones you have requested from other members will arrive
postage paid so in effect you have had your postage
costs refunded.

What are the
risks?
The Swapclub points
system means all parties are protected. If something
does go wrong, or the other person lets you down, then
as long as you have followed the correct steps you can't
lose your Swapclub points. The item
itself is not covered for loss except for cover (if
any) provided by the postage company you choose.

Can I trust other
members?
The Swapclub process
provides a high degree of safety but we encourage you
to view another member's feedback at the start. When
requesting an item you will get your points refunded
if the item doesn't arrive. When you send an item your
points are also protected if the item isn't received.
Should a member regularly not send or not receive an
item then they may have their membership disabled. Read

Can I contact
other members ?
Yes, once you have requested an item,
members may contact each other via email. This should
only be utilised to confirm delivery address. It is
not a forum to negotiate postage costs or similar issues.
This is strictly against the rules.

What happens if
my request isn't actioned?
If the item does not arrive and you
can't make contact with the other person then the swap
can be cancelled on the 21st day and your points refunded.
This is not to be used if you change your mind or the
item wasn't what you thought. Read

What happens if
I don't send out an item or it goes missing?
You are obliged to send out an item
when requested as part of your membership agreement.
If you can't produce a postage receipt for an item that
was requested from you then you will not receive any
points for that item. If you show a history of not sending
items then Swapclub may suspend or
cancel your membership. If you are not genuinely interested
in swapping then you should be on a classified or auction
site. Read more >>

What happens if I
don't acknowledge I have received an item?
You must either confirm delivery
or non-delivery of an item otherwise the swap is assumed
to be successfully completed after the 30th day. If
you show a history of not receiving items then Swapclub
may suspend or cancel your membership.
If you are not genuinely interested in swapping then
you should be on a classified or auction site. Read

Can I remove
an item?
Yes, but while you have an item listed
you are obliged to send it out if it is requested from
you so it must be available at all times during this
period. You will end up getting negative feedback if
you don't fulfil your obligations as a member and send
items when requested. You can put your account into
'sleep mode' if you go away on holiday. Our free membership
offer may mean you must keep the item listed for a specific
duration. Read

How
to load a picture?
To make an attractive listing
swapclub recommends uploading a picture of the item.
To do this you must first download a picture onto your
computer. We advise creating a “swapclub”
file in your system so you can easily store and locate
the pictures at any time.
- To get a picture
of your item:
- Take a picture with a digital
camera, phone, or
- Scan the item on a digital
scanner, or
- Find a picture on the web,
right click and copy it.
(Do a search of the title and/or author and you
will usually get a result).
- Image Copyright: It
is generally and widely accepted that copying
of images for use in this manner falls within
the term “fair use” and is not
copyright infringement. However we ask that
you do not load images that have been electronically
tagged with a logo or similar as it may be
copyrighted to that particular website
- Uploading your picture:
- Click on “Add picture”
when you create a listing and then “Browse”.
- Select the picture file (in
your swapclub folder) and then “Continue”.
The file will be transferred onto your listing.
- You can add a picture at any
time; just use the “modify” function.
- You can only upload
jpeg files (.jpg) onto swapclub. The file
size doesn’t matter as swapclub will
make adjustments. If you want to crop or resize
a picture or change it to a jpeg file try
using
Picasa (it’s free and easy to use).

How many
listings can I have?
You can list as many items as you
like as long as you're prepared to post them out when
requested. If you're a newbie to our website just list
a few items and once you see how well it works you will
gain confidence that it really is a great way to trade.
Back

How many
requests can I have?
The normal restriction is a maximum
of four items on request at any one time. New users are
restricted to a maximum of two requests at any one time
for an initial period.
Back

What if
I'm not available?
If you go away on holiday or business
for more than a couple of days and you still have some
current items in your inventory, just click on "sleep
mode" and let us know when you'll be back. Remember
to allow a couple of spare days for delays etc. You
can go live again at any time if you get back early.
If you forget about this until you are away get to a
computer and email us and we can put your account on
hold for you.
